TopMan invent Early Bastard Detection device

TOPMAN SCANDAL T-SHIRTSlogan t-shirts never were the height of wit or sartorial style, but they have undoubtedly hit a new low with this ‘apology’ t-shirt from TopMan.

It does defy belief that this t-shirt – a comprehensive list of common domestic violence apologies – made it to production. Could anyone – let alone a whole chain of design and production people – have failed to see how inappropriate this is? Is their system so totally devoid of sense or semblance of a moral compass? As I write, are TopShop desperately shredding their series of pink ‘I walked in to a door’ t-shirts?

In a statement released earlier TopMan said: “We have received some negative feedback regarding two of our printed T-shirts. While we would like to stress that these T-shirts were meant to be lighthearted and carried no serious meaning, we have made the decision to remove these (sic) from store and on-line as soon as possible.”

I’m sure many others will write about this statement and the social-cultural etc issues far more elegantly than I have time for now. Suffice to say, ‘meant to be lighthearted’ is the go-to defence of every skin-crawlingly oafish and numb-skulled misogynist I have ever met. A leading British retailer should know better.

At least there is one positive to all this. TopMan have created a highly effective and sophisticated Early Bastard Detection device. Run for the hills, people. Run for your lives.

Julia wins Curvy Kate Australia’s Star in a Bra!

Australia Curvy Kate Star in a BraCongratulations to the gorgeous Julia McLean for becoming the very first Australian Star in a Bra. The 19 year old law and business student saw off the other four finalists in the public vote to claim the prize which includes a modelling contract and – most importantly – a trip to the UK to star in the next Curvy Kate catalogue.

Writing on Curvy Kate Australia’s Facebook page, Julia said:

“It has been such an amazing opportunity and I know that each of the entrants and finalists will take with them so much from this experience. I can’t wait to meet the rest of the Curvy Kate team and be an ambassador for the brand… Well done Mariko, Anna, Lydia and Bec. It was wonderful to meet such beautiful, like-minded women and I wish you all the very best. I know that any one of you would’ve done us all proud. I only hope that I can do the same…”

We’re sure she will. Well done Julia, and to all the other brave girls that entered. Here’s to Star in a Bra 2012!

Curvy Kate scoop ‘Fuller Bust Brand of the Year’ at UK Lingerie Awards

Curvy Kate Lingerie

Congratulations to Curvy Kate, who last night took home the much coveted ‘Fuller Bust Brand of the Year’ prize at the UK Lingerie Awards. It’s the cherry on top of what has been a rather delicious cake of a year for the rapidly expanding British brand, who have seen their Star in Bra competition exported to Australia and their product launch in to new lingerie markets all across the globe.

And while Freya missed out on the Sports Bra prize to Shock Absorber (don’t worry Freya, every girl over an E cup knows that your engineering skills would blow even Brunel’s mind), I have to say the biggest disappointment of the night was the marketing campaign category.  Whilst my first choice – Freya’s Bra Doctors – didn’t make it to the final, Curvy Kate’s Star in a Bra outshone far and away the La Senza Cup Size Choir campaign. And while the Cup Size Choir may have gone viral, I’d take a vehemently positive celebration of diverse women’s bodies over eight models looking uncomfortably at a camera any day. They look like they’re bracing themselves for a smear test, fer-begeecups-sake…

A full list of winners is available on the hosts’ Lingerie Insight’s website here, and very well done to all. Even to the Cup Size Choir. Now pop your knickers back on dears and pull the curtain back when you’re ready…

New Freya Deco for Autumn. YES.

Freya Lingerie New Deco RedFreya Lingerie’s classic Deco style is reworked once more in this gorgeous red colour with supercute polka dot bow detail, available in October. Which I’m especially excited about – not only because the Deco is one of my favourite styles, but because it is far and away the best bra for cycling I have ever tested and my tandem bike is red. Surely, this is destiny.

Sadly no improvement on the size selection (the cries for an H+ cup grow daily), but it’s still available in a range of sizes to a GG cup. It’s also worth noting that the Deco is known for coming up large, especially at the top of the cup. GG+ ladies, it might be worth trying a size down to see if you too can enjoy the Jessica Rabbit cleavage, gravity defiance and on-bike suspension the style affords. My first have-to-have spot for Autumn so far.

Bravissimo expand soft cup bra range

Panache Soft Cup Bra AlishaFollowing a cry for help over on the Busts 4 Justice Facebook page for 38G non-wired bras, I popped over to Bravissimo to check out how their collection of soft-cup bras was looking since my last look, researching sleepwear options for big boobs.

I’m increasingly asked about soft cup lingerie, especially for big boobed women looking for something to sleep in, or just to wear for comfort at the end of a long day. So it was encouraging to see that as well as the beautiful Panache Sophie (28-40 D-J), new for Autumn Bravissimo now stock this cute, retro style Panache Alisha (30-40 D-J) too. These, combined with Freya’s gorgeous Dotty range (30-38 D-HH, 40 D-G) [check out my review here], mean that women looking for a softer support are now rescued from the drab gloom of ungainly styles or resorting to maternity bras. Comfort shouldn’t mean compromising on style – long may the soft cup trend continue.

P.S if you haven’t tried a soft cup yet, I definitely recommend it. Perfect for wearing under layers and layers of soft fabrics on ‘indoor days’….
