OH EM G-CUPS: new Freya coming soon

Freya Nieve Lingerie NewUsually I avoid Freya’s ‘coming soon’ tab, inclined as I am to lose long swathes of time dreaming about lingerie I can’t own yet. But when I saw a tweet suggesting it had been updated, I couldn’t resist breaking up my commute with a cheeky peek. And oh – what a peek it was.

We’ve been expecting the longline Freya style for what feels like a lifetime now, but now we know it’s coming in just a few long short months. It’s absolutely gorgeous. The Liberty-inspired print is beautiful and the striking black trim keeps it from being too twee. I. Love. It.

The longline is only available in a modest 30D-G, 32C-36G range: a cautious debut for the style. Given how comfortable longlines are for small-backed, big-breasted women, I hope it’s something Freya plan to expand upon in time. And in spite of that disappointment, the co-ordinating balcony bra does its best to compensate, with a massive size-selection of 28-D-J, 30D-36K, 38D-JJ in a classic Freya cut.

There’s a bit of a wait for them though: Nieve isn’t released until August 2011, so I’ll have to be patient for my longline Nieve. Although, in other not totally unrelated news, August does happen to be when my birthday is…………………….

Slinky Dip Bikini Reviewed

Slinky Dip Polka Dot Halter BikiniIt’s been a long wait but finally the Slinky Dip polka dot halter bikini – the bikini so eagerly anticipated it crashed the Miss Fit website when we wrote against it last month – has landed in Amsterdam. And with May proving even hotter than April, I didn’t need much persuading to strip off immediately and put the coveted Slinky Dip to the test.

First things first, it is as beautiful as it looks in the picture. The colour is rich, the fabric is soft, and it’s cut nicely – especially on the bottoms, which are incredibly flattering for skimpy knickers.

The halter has the most gorgeously long ties which trail right down my back – a detail I love in spite of the fact it probably means I’ll undo and embarrass myself whenever I sit down in it. The cups are quite generous, and were I to reorder I probably would size down. That said the wide cut gives exceptional coverage, totally dealing with the pesky side-boob danger-zone so often a problem with tie-halter swimwear. Without underwire and specific sizing it’s never going to be the number one choice for an active day at the beach, but – as comfortable as loungewear but stylish enough for the tiki bar – it is the perfect choice for a lazy day at the pool.

Best of all, it’s still available for just £24 at The Big Bra Bar, making it by far the best value piece of stylish swimwear we’ve ever seen. Well worth a Dip.

Happy International No Diet Day

Cookie Monster Cupcake for International No Diet Day

…Sorry it’s belated.

Once again, despite vowing to do something for it last year I completely missed International No Diet Day. Never heard of it? International No Diet Day takes place at the beginning of the ‘bikini diet’ season on May 6th each year and, despite what it sounds like, it is not a license to eat your body weight in cake before swearing to abstinence the next morning. INDD is about rejecting dieting, and rejecting the negative feedback spiral of self-deprecation, disappointment and failure that completely distorts our relationships with food and our bodies and keeps the diet industry making more and more billions each and every year.

This year I wanted to stand in Trafalgar Square dressed as an enormous puffy cupcake, waving IDD placards and barking I AM NOT WHAT I EAT at passing traffic. Emigrating put the kybosh on that, unfortunately. [I promise I wasn’t asked to leave the country…]

There’s been a brilliant swell of curve love recently, not just with high profile campaigns like Star in a Bra, but more generally in the online boobosphere too. Yet still last week three completely unconnected and totally healthy friends (including one of my favourite bloggers and Twitter playmates, the beautiful @greatgospel) announced ‘no carbs til marbs’ on their profiles.

In the spirit of International No Diet Day, can we come out against our Happy and Healthy friends (and selves) denying a key food group for no good reason? Because as important as it is for more companies to embrace broader definitions of ‘beauty’, it won’t change anything if we continue to be our own harshest critics. For things to change, we need to broaden our acceptance not only of what we see in the media, but what we see in the mirror too.

I for one am going to try. Will you join me?

Star in a Bra winner announced… IT’S LIZZIE!

Massive Z-cup sized congratulations to the gorgeous, lovely and multi-talented Lizzie Haines (aka @DoItMomma), for facing down the competition and winning this year’s Star in a Bra competition. Lizzie will go on to be the face and body of Curvy Kate for two seasons, as well as winning heaps of goodies and vouchers to boot.

The standard this year was incredibly high, and it was genuinely difficult to pick between the girls. Busts 4 Justice would like to say a massive congratulations to all ten finalists: all of them beautiful, brave and brilliant in their own individual ways.

Sadly though, there can only be one winner. Well done Lizzie: WIN IT MOMMA! x

Airmail goodies reviewed: Freya Edith and Freya Trudie

It’s bra feast or famine here. After nearly two months of a severely restricted bra access and fiendishly expensive and limited local options, Lembrassa’s emergency bra airdrop arrived two days ago with the rest of my long lost wardrobe hot on its heels. So now I am in proud possession of the beautiful Trudie Ice and Edith Aqua sets, as well as the rest of my long loved lingerie too. I am replete. I also need significantly bigger drawers…

Historically I haven’t worn the plunge + lace styles, preferring simpler shapes like Freya Jolie or Panache Tango for my general day-to-day. But, as it gets increasingly hard to resist the very many beautiful versions available, I wanted to see if this was a practical enough style to make it in to my heavy rotation.

With so much lace, I’d always assumed they wouldn’t be as tough as my usual day bras; and that challenges like cycling or running down stairs would be too much for its delicate form. But, put to the test with the tough manual tedium of moving-in, both bras are doing extremely well. They’re extraordinarily comfortable whilst giving me an uplifted but natural shape, and they’re handling heavy lifting, stairs and even a quick run on Cecil without so much as a nip out of place. And more than that, switching between the two is really helping me speed through the boxes. It appears lacy lingerie can be hard-working too… Who knew?

One niggle: they are a tad generous in the back so, if you’re an inbetweeny like me (my chest is 29″), keep that in mind when ordering. Other than that, another two excellent hits for my spiralling Freya addiction. *sings* There was an old woman who lived in a bra…
