UK attempt to smash bra chain record

Last July, Busts 4 Justice reported a brilliant attempt by New Zealand Girl Guides to create the world’s longest bra chain and raise money and awareness for breast cancer charities.

Whilst we love the NZ girls for trying, we’re happy to say a British lingerie firm has launched its own campaign to snatch the record from their grasps and bring the record to the UK.

2nd Skin Lingerie hope to collect 200,000 bras and create a chain over 100miles long, smashing the world record and raising money for Women’s Aid, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, and the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign.

We have until 31 July 2011 to raid our lingerie drawers/stockrooms/warehouses to help break the record, or we can help raise funds by sponsoring a bra or collection box.  Check out the website to find out how to donate, and keep up to date with their efforts by following the #brachain tag on Twitter.

Good luck ladies!

Celebrity Big Bra Auction (nb: bras not actually that big)

40 celebrities have designed bras for the Big Bra Auction, to raise money for Cancerkin and the Jewish Community Centre for London.

The bras range from the sublime (Nerida Fraiman, above) to the hilarious (Jo Brand, “This does not fit. Give it to Cheryl”, and start at £5.

Unfortunately the Big Bra Auction features only B-cups – but a brief and distant memory for the average B4J-er – so we wouldn’t actually be able to wear any of the bras on offer.  But it is for a good cause, so if anyone does have a spare few quid do still bid.  You could always fashion your prize in to a piece of modern art, or pair of novelty earmuffs, or some kind of fancy catapult…

Plus, Nerida Fraiman’s contribution may also be the most beautiful bra we have ever seen.  Perhaps one of our big boob champions could knock us up a repilica… Freya? Panache? Anyone??

To take part, visit the website here. The Big Bra Auction closes at 10am, Monday 28th February.

Bravissimo L-ead the way again.

High Street boob champions Bravissimo are once again blazing a trail on the high street with the launch of their first L-cup bra.

Bravissimo started, as many of our big bra buying careers did, as mail order only; but over the years they’ve expanded and paved the way for large cup lingerie to become a staple on the British high street.  This latest news proves their dedication to giving all busty women access to properly fitting lingerie, and continues to celebrate the brilliance of our curviest curves.

The Alana bra goes up to an L-cup in black, white, nude and Petal Pink, and retails at a pretty bargainous £26 (once price fits all).  Hurrah!

Kelly Brook disappointed with boobs, Busts 4 Justice disappointed with Kelly Brook.

Now she probably meant to say it in that consciously self-deprecating way British people do sometimes to endear themselves to others, but Kelly Brook’s declaration that her boobs are a “big disappointment” as they’re “not super perky because they’re big” is frustrating.  Having previously admired her for her celebration of a full and natural bosom, we suddenly find ourselves disappointed with Kelly Brook.

Kelly Brook is paid pots of money to look gorgeous, and she does it very well.  Even those amongst us with the most positive body image would be forgiven for looking on and saying, ‘blimey, I wouldn’t mind those those eyes/legs/knockers/smile (delete as appropriate)’.  But what happens when someone struggling with their body image sees someone like Kelly Brook being ‘disappointed’ with their own body?  I suspect it doesn’t, as perhaps was Ms Brook’s intention, inspire feelings of ‘wow, she has insecurities, she’s just like me’.  I expect it simply compounds feelings of inadequacy: ‘if Kelly Brook’s boobs are a disappointment, what must mine be?’

And whilst Kelly may not have thought about any of this when she said it, the quote has since gained a significant amount of attention in tabloids and magazines. So now we’d like to extend Ms Brook a challenge…

How refreshing would it be for a woman like Kelly Brook to say “I love the way I am, just as I am”? Or even better, “I do have hang-ups about my body but I concede that that’s probably more to do with the demented culture we have about women and their bodies that it does my actual physical form…”  It’s not a solution, but it is a start.

Come on Kelly, stand up for your boobs.  And stand up for the rest of us.
