e-medicine: Leia Lingerie outlet store.

Lots of stuff to be blogging about but poorly so, as a plan B, I thought I’d share with you two exciting things discovered whilst shopping online for ‘medicinal’ lingerie…

Firstly, the Leia Lingerie outlet store is BRILLIANT for bargains so check it out next time you’re shopping.  I love Fauve, but it’s usually above my budget for bras.  I found this Fauve Natalia set at the LL outlet for about half price, and had an e-mail confirming its dispatch less than half an hour.  I’m starting to feel better already…

Bravissimo launch exciting new clothing brand

High street boob champions Bravissimo launch their brand new clothing range next week.

Pepperberry will replace their existing clothing range with a wide range of fashion forward looks and matching accessories, and from the few sneaky peeks we’ve peeped it’s going to be well worth checking out.  Plus, as with Bravissimo clothes, Pepperberry will be sized to dress size AND cup size, so you can get a perfect fit without having to resort to the usual big boobs/small waist home alteration tricks…

Pepperberry will be sold in store at Bravissimo, online, and in its own brand new Pepperberry branches in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Hurrah!

Are 28/30 backs being sized out by accident?

The number of small-backed/big-cupped girls is increasing but still we’re sized out of bra ranges: either the cups stop at DD+ or the backs start at 32.

Yesterday’s Elle Macpherson Intimates review got me thinking: is this just an unintentional oversight stemming from the old ‘plus four’ fitting method?  For some reason B4J has never been able to fathom, traditionally back sizes were based on the under bust measurement plus four (or five) inches.  Which is fine if you’re under a D cup and not demanding too much structural support from your undercrackers.  But over a D cup, more of the support needs to come from the band.  Properly fitted, DD+ cup bra back sizes should fall back four inches to the true size.

So isn’t it conceivable that when commissioning their bigger ranges, manufacturers simply aren’t taking this in to consideration?  Elle Macpherson Intimates are not a plus size brand.  For them to hit the equivalent size demographics as their A-D range in their D-G range they shouldn’t be making the same 32-38 backs, they should be making 28-34s.  A properly fitted DD+ 38 back is the A-D equivalent of a 42.  You only have to look at their knicker sizes – and the tiny models they use – to see that that’s not what they’re aiming for.

Perhaps we should be educating retailers as much as we’re educating ourselves about fitting, or perhaps (please, pretty please) we should abandon the inexplicable and old-fashioned ‘plus four’ method altogether and simplify things for everyone.  In the meantime, check out the likes of Freya, Panache, Curvy Kate and 2wenty8 for big-cupped/small-backed bras that do fit…

Elle Macpherson Intimates

I’d heard a rumour that the gorgeous Elle Macpherson Intimates D-G range came up small on the back, so whilst rummaging in Selfridges’ lingerie treasure trove I couldn’t resist seeing if a 32 could be persuaded to fit my 28/30 ribs.

Sadly, B4J must report that the small-back rumour was just that: the bras I tried – as much as I willed them to shrink around me – were true 32s.  Which is good for 32s, I know; but it’s such a shame that such an exciting – and beautiful – expansion in to DD+ bras manages to overlook so many of us (especially when it uses such tiny backed girls to model it…). Come on, The Body: how about petite backs for next season?

Elle Macpherson Intimates can be found at Selfridges, Figleaves, John Lewis, ASOS, House of Fraser, and many more. Enjoy, 32-38 backs…

More temptation: new swimwear from Freya

This morning, Leia Lingerie too decided they needed to torture tempt me with an e-mailer full of Freya’s new swimwear.  Following yesterday’s resolve not to buy any new treats for G-Unit, it’s now clear that to do this I’m either going to have to sit on my hands, give the credit cards to the cat, or poke my eyes out until the summer’s over.

The print and colour on the Mirage (above left) is stunning, and while we’re disappointed the plunge bikini pictured only goes up to an FF (boo!), there’s an equally lovely balcony version that goes all the way up to an HH for those with a bit more up top.

The Venetian is something a bit different.  It’s more mix-and-matchy than usual for a bikini set, but I think it really works.  Some bikinis – especially when wrangling a bountiful bosom – can look a bit lingerie-y and too sexy for a day on a beach with friends.  The Venetian totally sidesteps that, and with a Freya fit all the way up to a GG cup, it can sidestep it for a whole lot of us.

Not that this matters to me, obvs.  I am definitely, definitely not giving in to swimwear temptation… *starts to crumble*
